JI demands restoration of circular railway affectees

KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi chief Engr. Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman has demanded of the government to reveal the details in connection with restoration of circular railway in Karachi as well as restoration of affected people.

He was talking to a delegation of afectees of the proposed plan on Thursday at the JI Karachi hedquarters. Office bearers of JI Karachi public aid committee were also present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, JI leader asked the government to announce their planning in this regard. He recalled that during the tenure of JI’s City Nazim Nematullah Khan had provided the affectees of Lyari Express Way with plots, cash and a well planned colony.

He further said that in 2004 Nematullah Khan had got all set to restore the circular railway with the help of foreign investment but the back to back governments of Muttahida Qaumi Movement and Pakistan Peoples Party ruined the entire project.

He demanded of the government to act upon the proposed Rs 500 billion development package for Karachi.

Earlier, Haji Badshah Khan, who was chairing the delegation informed the JI leader that thousands of families are on verge of displacement and the government is reluctant to announce any program for the restoration of those going to be displaced.

He also raised the point that a large number of plazas are located near the railway tracks but the rule is being changed for slum areas.
