ISLAMABAD: Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Senator Sirajul Haq has demanded legislation for more powers to the commission chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan to probe the Panama leaks.

While talking to the media outside the Parliament House, Sirajul Haq demanded of the government to amend the 1956 act which provides pathways for different commissions.

Haq said the commission should be given full authority to make decisive action instead of being limited only to dispatch recommendations.

He said government wrote a letter to CJP but it did not mention that to whom they wanted to probe.

JI leader said the government should clarify its position by providing name list to CJP which they wanted to be brought to accountability side. He said the government should constitute Terms of References (ToRs) in collaboration with the opposition for the commission to probe Panama revelations.

He stressed upon the government to build national unanimity on the issue, adding that the issue cannot be resolved via speeches.

Haq demanded legislation for ruthless accountability to eliminate corruption from the country. He termed Panama leaks as penalty of the Allah Almighty against corrupt elements. He said approximately $18 billion worth foreign reserves were added in national treasury by income of overseas Pakistanis which was transferred abroad by the corrupt rulers.
