ISLAMABAD: A Jamaat-e-Islami delegation headed by Dr Farid Ahmed Piracha, on Friday called on the PEMRA Chairman, Absar Alam, in Islamabad and appreciated some recent steps by PEMRA for the implementation of its rules.

The delegation, which also included JI central Media Coordinator, Shahid Shamsi,  expressed the hope that the PEMRA chief as a responsible journalist, would take solid steps towards the implementation of the constitution of the country and the PEMRA laws and rules.

Dr Farid Piracha noted that the media, especially the electronic and social media had great role in the building and destroying the nation. He said that the under article 31 of the constitution, it was the re sensibility of the state to build an Islamic society in the country.  However, he said that some Media Houses were presenting programmes against the Quran and the Sunnah only for their financial ends even though these destroyed the character of the youth and the society at large.

The delegation also criticized the media for ignoring the mass movement of the Kashmiris that had picked up for the last two months due to the increasing brutalities of the occupation forces.

The PEMRA chief assured the JI delegation that he would try to discharge his duties as a responsible citizen.
