ABU DHABI: Israel opened its first embassy in the United Arab Emirate’s (UAE) state of Abu Dhabi.
Upon arrival at Abu Dhabi airport, Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid thanked the UAE authorities for the warm welcome on social media and also released photos.
Yair Lapid later inaugurated the Israeli embassy in Abu Dhabi. He will also inaugurate the Israeli Consulate General in Dubai and meet with his counterpart Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed.
Relations between the UAE and Israel were restored in September last year, and in January this year, Israel formally approved the opening of its embassy in the UAE. The UAE also opened its embassy in Tel Aviv. The embassy was approved to open.
This is the first visit by an Israeli minister since diplomatic relations between Israel and the United Arab Emirates.
