ISLAMABAD: Talks between the government and the protest leaders on Monday failed to make headway as deadlock continues over the latter’s demand for the law minister’s resignation.

Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique, Raja Zafarul Haq, Rana Sanaullah and Captain (retd) Safdar represented the government side while Azhar Hussain Rizvi, Shafiq Ameeni, Pir Inayatul Haq Shah and Waheed Noor attended the meeting, which lasted about two-and-a-half-hour on behalf of the dharna committee at the Punjab House.

Speaking to the media after the talks, Saad Rafique said that the government intends to solve the issue through talks. We have explained each and every thing to the protest leaders in the meeting. Court had already ordered to vacate the Faizabad interchange as blockade is causing inconvenience to masses.

Earlier in the day, Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal had said that some elements want to create Lal Mosque or Model Town like situation in the capital.

He was talking to media after court appearance in the Faizabad sit-in case.
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday had directed the administration to get the Faizabad interchange vacated from the protesters of Tehreek Labbaik Ya Rasool Allah (TLYRA) till Saturday.
