Hockey: Islahuddin resigns as chief selector

KARACHI: Chief selector of Pakistan Hockey team Islahuddin has resigned from his post following Pakistan team exit from Rio Olympics 2016.

Pakistan team has suffered a humiliating defeat against Ireland by 1-0 playing to qualify for fifth and sixth place.

The Green-shirts have a disappointing tournament winning only match against Poland while facing defeat against Australia, England and Ireland.

Pakistan have played level against France and arch rival India as well. Now they will play last match for 7th and 8th position in the tournament.

Prime Minister of Pakistan Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif also took notice of Pakistan hockey team’s poor performance in World Hockey League.

The PM expressed concern over the dismal performance of the team and demanded a report on the loss from Pakistan Hockey Federation and Ministry of Sports.

Earlier on Thursday, Pakistan lost 1-0 to Ireland in the FIH Hockey World League Semi-finals. As a result, for the first time in their illustrious history, the Pakistan hockey team failed to qualify for the Olympics
