MUMBAI: Supreme Court of India has suspended Indian Premier League (IPL) team Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings for two years.

The Supreme Court committee headed by ex-CJI RM Lodha prescribed punishment for Chennai Super Kings official Gurunath Meiyappan and Rajasthan Royals co-owner Raj Kundra for being involved in betting in IPL 2013.

CSK official Gurunath Meiyappan and Rajasthan Royals co-owner Raj Kundra suspended for life from involvement of any type of cricket matter.

“We have acted on behalf of BCCI. The law will take its own course. No criminal liability has been decided by us,” clarifies Justice Lodha.

Reports say the panel is likely to impose heavy fines – a ban on the two teams would be a big blow to the eight-team tournament.

Chennai Super Kings are led by India skipper MS Dhoni and have New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum in their side.

The Royals are captained by Australia batsman Steve Smith.

Chennai have reached four finals, winning in 2010 and 2011. The Royals won the inaugural tournament in 2008.
