Inzamam leaves Afghan team’s coaching for Pakistan job

LAHORE:  As Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) decided to appoint former skipper of Pakistan cricket team Inzamam-ul-Haq as chief selector, the legendary batsman, who is serving as a head coach of Afghan team, already sent his resignation to Afghanistan Cricket Board.

The resignation was sent via Email, saying that he will not be available continue his duty as the head coach of the team.

PCB had requested the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) to release him for the Pakistan job.

The board’s decision came to be a sudden move as names of former players Iqbal Qasim, Mohsin Khan and Rashid Latif were also taking under consideration.

The formal announcement in this regard is likely to be made in coming days.

The former captain is also likely to pull socks up for choosing competent selection committee members once he takes charge of the post.

Inzamam captained Pakistan in 31 Test matches among which 11 were won and another 11 were lost while nine ended in draw. The player also led the national team in 87 ODIs with 51 wins and 33 losses.

Earlier, former coach Waqar Younis appreciated the news regarding former legendary batsman Inzamam-ul-Haq being offered a chance to serve as the coach of the side.

He also criticised PCB’s decision to hire a temporary coach for the team. He termed the idea to introduce a temporary coach in the side as ‘unwise’.
