A local court Thursday approved an interim bail for Jamiat Ulema e Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Senator Hafiz Hamdullah till July 15 in a case of verbal assault on women rights activist Marvi Sirmed.
The JUI-F leader had filed a plea for extension in interim bail which was granted by the court today, Thursday.
A case was registered against Hamdullah for allegedly threatening and manhandling Marvi Sirmed in a television show.
Marvi accused Hamdullah of abusing her with “worst possible expletives” during a TV programme regarding honor killings aired on June 10.
The disturbing incident caused outrage on social media, drawing condemnations from political leaders, journalists and rights defenders.
