NEW YORK: Pakistan’s Ambassador at United Nations says injustice, backwardness and economic deprivation are major causes of extremism.
Pakistan’s Ambassador at UN Dr Maleeha Lodhi has called for comprehensive planning to prevent violent extremism from the world.
She was addressing a debate on strategy for the prevention of violent extremism at UN General Assembly in New York. Dr Maleeha Lodhi said injustice, backwardness and economic deprivation are major causes of extremism. She said that indigenous and external factors promote extremism and terrorism in the society.
Dr Maleeha Lodhi said terrorist exploit right to self-determination and injustice for their nefarious designs and factors inciting violence should not be given less attention.
She said out of twenty points of National Action Plan in Pakistan, eight points are related to eradication of extremism.
