RAWALPINDI Pakistan Army has termed continued ceasefire violations from the Indian side as potential threat to the regional stability.
The stance came a day after a civilian succumbed to his injuries caused by Indian unprovoked indiscriminate firing in the Khoiratta sector of the Line of Control (LoC). Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa chaired on Wednesday 199th Corps Commanders conference at the General Headquarters (GHQ) Rawalpindi on Wednesday. “The forum viewed continued unprovoked ceasefire violations by India along the Line of Control and Working Boundary as potential threat to regional stability,” a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said. Taking immediate action against the Indian aggression, the Foreign Office summoned India’s deputy high commissioner in Islamabad to lodge a protest over Indian security forces’ “unprovoked ceasefire violation”.
“The Director General (SA & SAARC), Dr Mohammad Faisal, summoned the Indian Deputy High Commissioner JP Singh today [Wednesday] and condemned the unprovoked ceasefire violation, on February 7, 2017, by the Indian occupation forces on the LoC (in Khui Ratta Sector),” the communique added.
The Corps Commander conference also reviewed the overall security situation and expressed satisfaction over the progress of counter terrorism operations. Gen Qamar also directed the army to continue these operations till the achievement of required eradication of terrorism. The military high-level huddle condemned recent terrorist incidents in Afghanistan and expressed solidarity with Afghan people and their security forces in fighting terrorism.—Agencies
