NEW DELHI: Indian Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected Yakub Memon’s plea. He was convicted in 2008 Mumbai bomb blasts. He requested the SC that the correct procedure was not followed in his case.
Court gave him death penalty and his execution was scheduled on Thursday.
The apex court said there was no legal fallacy in the issuance of death warrant by the TADA court in Mumbai on April 30 scheduling Yakub’s execution for Thursday.
The three-judge bench headed by Justice Dipak Misra said, “Issuance of death warrant cannot be faulted with.”
Later, President Pranab Mukherjee sent Yakub’s fresh mercy petition to the home ministry.
Sources said that the ministry sent it back to the President with the advice that he should be hanged at the earliest.
Pranab Mukherjee rejected the Yakub Memon’s mercy plea, said media report. Indian media reported that Yakub Memon filed another mercy appeal in the supreme court.
