KABUL: An Indian consulate reportedly attacked by armed persons in northern part of insurgency hit Afghanistan here on Sunday, foreign media reported.
Unknown attackers attempted to enter compound of the Indian consulate situated in Mazar-e-Sharif city late on Sunday, reports said. Twin explosions and gun shots were heard on the incident’s site, spokesperson of the governor said.
Afghan special forces have killed two of the four attackers in the incident. No Indian casualties reported in the incident so far, NDTV reported.
British media reported that explosions and gunfire heard near Indian consulate in Afghan city of Mazar-e-Sharif.
“We are being attacked. Fighting is going on,” an Indian consulate official told AFP by telephone from inside the compound.
India has a three-member consulate in the northern Balkh district.
