India summons Iranian envoy over FM’s anti-Muslim violence remarks

NEW DELHI: Following Iran’s criticism on the anti-Muslim violence in India, New Delhi on Tuesday summoned the Tehran’s ambassador, seeking clarification of the country’s foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.

Zarif had earlier on Monday condemned the anti-Muslim violence in India. He also urged the Indian government to make sure well-being of all citizens.

New Delhi had voiced dismay and disappointment over the Iranian foreign minister’s remarks.

New Delhi also advised Tehran not to meddle in the internal affairs of India.
