India-Pakistan foreign secretaries likely to meet in early February: Basit

NEW DELHI: Pakistani High Commissioner Abdul Basit said the foreign secretaries of Pakistan and India would possibility of holding their meeting towards end of first week or in the second week of February.

Officials from both sides have been in touch with each other for rescheduling the meeting, government sources informed.

The two sides are trying to schedule the meeting keeping in mind other preoccupations of both Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar and his Pakistani counterpart Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry.

Basit said in an interview that, It has been learnt that two sides are toying with the dates of February 6-7 and February 7-8 to schedule the meeting.

But a final decision is yet to be taken. The Indian Foreign Secretary has been pre-occupied with the French President’s visit during the past week following his visit to Maldives and Sri Lanka. The schedule of his trip to Islamabad will be chalked out in the coming days.
