LAHORE: President Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), Abdul Rasheed Turabi has said India hasn’t any right to celebrate Republic Day falling on January 26 (Thursday) as it continues to usurp the fundamental human rights of Kashmiris and has nothing to do with democratic norms and credentials.
In a statement here on Wednesday, a day ahead of India’s Republic Day, Abdul Rasheed Turabi said that India New Delhi has no right to celebrate the day as long as it continues to violate the UN Security Council resolutions on Kashmir and tramples human rights values of Kashmiri people, granted under UN charter. He pointed out that Indian leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru had pledged to give people of Jammu and Kashmir their right to choose their future through plebiscite.
The President JI AJK called upon the international community to take cognizance of human rights violations by India in occupied Kashmir.
He said that people of Kashmir will observe India’s Republic Day as black day in occupied Kashmir, Azad Kashmir, Pakistan and elsewhere in the world. Turabi said that brutal killing of Burhan Wani has once again exposed India at the global level and the world has become well aware of the undemocratic face of India. INP
