Indian Cabinet has extended the President’s rule in occupied Kashmir for six more months.
A meeting of the Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, gave its approval for the extension of the President’s rule which has been continuing in occupied Kashmir since December 20, 2018.
Indian Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Prakash Javadekar, talking to reporters in New Delhi said that President’s rule in occupied Kashmir would be extended for six more months beginning July 03 and the Cabinet on Wednesday gave its nod in this effect.
“Yes, it has been decided,” Javadekar said when asked whether the Cabinet gave its nod to extend President’s rule in the occupied territory.
After the Indian Cabinet’s nod, President Ram Nath Kovind will sign the proclamation for imposition of President’s rule in Kashmir and it will come into effect on July 03, a home ministry official said.
It is to mention here that the Indian government had imposed President’s rule for the third time in occupied Kashmir on December 20, 2018. Earlier, the territory was under the Governor’s rule after the collapse of PDP-BJP regime, last year.
President’s Rule was first imposed in the occupied territory in 1986 and for the second time in 1996.
