FAISALABAD: The cardiac patient had to suffer as the pharmaceutical companies have evolved a unique way to cheat the patients by increasing the prices of life saving drugs without getting prior permission from the drug regulatory authority.

Talking to INP news agency on Saturday, cardiac patient hailing from different localities of Faisalabad district disclosed that they have been using OGral-PLUS-81 tablets as per the prescription of his doctor.

They said that earlier, the pack of this medicine with 28 tablets was marketed with the retail price of Rs.169 per pack but the pharmaceutical company has adopted a novel way to extort the patients by reducing the pack by 10 tablets only but enhancing its price almost double. The tablet which was earlier available at Rs. 6 only is now marketed with the retail price of Rs.12.50.

“This increase is almost 100% and this modus operandi is also being used to increase the prices of other medicine,” they stated.

The cardiac patients have demanded of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Federal Health Ministry and Drugs Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) to take immediate notice of this unwanted increase in the prices of life saving drugs.

They said that government should adopt a patient friendly drug regulatory system instead of allowing pharmaceutical companies to increase the prices of various drugs without adopting the set procedure to increase the prices of medicines.
