Imran Khan seeks NRO, wants guarantee not to be arrested and booked: senior journalist

ISLAMABAD: Senior journalist Hamid Mir has revealed that Prime Minister Imran Khan is seeking NRO from the opposition.

In a live broadcast on Geo News, Hamid Mir said that Imran Khan was sitting in Bani Gala and the people of the cabinet were in touch with him.

He said that the opposition leaders had agreed with the Speaker that voting would be held after Iftar but the ministers were pressuring the Speaker not to hold voting after Iftar.

He did not disclose that the effort was being made to hold talks with some key opposition figures by  the government ministers during the break. They had received a new order that the main opposition personalities need to be assured that if the no-confidence motion succeeds and a new government is formed tomorrow, the NAB will not file cases against Imran Khan and the cabinet and they will not be arrested.

“In other words, Imran Khan is seeking NRO from the opposition but he has spoken to the opposition. He said that the opposition were not ready for any such compromise. The order of the Supreme Court should be complied with,” the opposition insisted.

Hamad Mir said that even last night there was talk between the government and opposition leaders that Imran Khan would not mind if a leader of a small party was made the prime minister instead of Shehbaz Sharif.

It may be recalled that the session of the National Assembly has been going on since 10:30 am but the voting process on the resolution has not been started by the Speaker so far and now there is a break till 7:30 am.
