It may be recalled that the president had written a letter to the Prime Minister Imran and Shehbaz Sharif in which it was said that if there was no agreement on a single name within three days of the dissolution of the assembly, the two personalities would send two names to the committee.
The president’s letter said that if the prime minister and the Leader of the Opposition do not agree on a single name for the caretaker Prime Minister, then the Speaker of the National Assembly will form an eight-member committee comprising members of both the government and the opposition. It will consist of members of the National Assembly and members of the Senate.
On the other hand, when asked about the president’s letter, Shehbaz Sharif said that the president, Imran Khan and the Deputy Speaker have violated the Constitution. How can a letter from the unconstitutional president be responded, he said.
Reacting to Shehbaz Sharif’s reply, Fawad Chaudhry said that if Shehbaz Sharif does not want to be a part of the caretaker Prime Minister’s consultation, then we have given two names, one of our names will be selected in seven days.
