ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday rejected a petition submitted by Shafqat Hussain’s counsel to form a judicial committee to judge the convicted prisoner age.

The IHC one member’s bench Judge Justice Athar Minallah heard the plea and declared the petition unattainable.

It is pertinent to mention here that last week, IHC issued a stay order against his execution just a day before he was scheduled to be hanged.

The convicted counsel  had filed a petition in the IHC expressing dissatisfaction over the FIA’s investigation into its client’s age.

The IHC last week had directed the government to explain the legal status of the inquiry conducted by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to determine the age of the murder convict.

Today’s hearing at the IHC rejected a further plea by  Shafqat’s counsel which would probe an inquiry into his age, meaning that there would be no further delay in his hanging.

The condemned prisoner was scheduled to face the gallows on May 6 after an anti-terrorism court (ATC) had issued his death warrant on April 24.

Earlier his execution was delayed for 72 hours and then for 30 days on March 19 after civil society staged protest outside president house.
