Nawaz Sharif says Indian team should have come to Pakistan to play Champions Trophy

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court on Tuesday ordered former premier Nawaz Sharif to surrender and appear before it on Sept 10.

A two-member bench heard the petition filed by Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz and Capt (retd) Safdar against their convictions in the Avenfield reference.

The counsel for the former premier, Khawaja Harris, giving arguments said that the bail of his client had been approved following the suspension of conviction in the Avenfield reference. In Al Azizia reference, the ex-PM had been given a conditional bail. The current status of Nawaz Sharif is that he is not on a bail. This is a legal position, he is not on a bail and has gone abroad for his treatment , the counsel told the court.

At which, Justice Amir Farooq observed that Nawaz Sharif’s bail was conditional and for a specific period.

Khawaja Harris informed the court that the medical reports of the former premier had been submitted, explaining his health is not good. But despite that his application seeking extension in the bail was rejected.

Justice Amir Farooq remarked that the court would give a date on which Nawaz Sharif should surrender.

Later, the court adjourned hearing on the former premier’s petition against his conviction in the Al Azizia Steel Mills and Avenfield references till Sept 10 while that of Maryam Nawaz and Capt Safdar’s till Sept 23.
