IHC orders Adiala jail to present PTI founder before court today

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has barred Prime Minister Imran Khan from releasing classified documents.

Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Athar Minallah issued a written order on the petition of a citizen. The high court in a written order referred to the oath of office of the Prime Minister and said that it was hoped that the prime minister would not violate his oath.

The court said it was confident that the prime minister would not disclose information that was against the national interest.

The order states that the Oath and Official Secrets Act obliges the prime minister not to take any decision beyond that.

In its judgment, the IHC referred to Article 91 (5) of the Constitution and Article 5 (5) of the Official Secrets Act and said that it was confident that as the elected prime minister he would not violate Article 5 of the Official Secrets Act and would not disclose any information under the Official Secrets Act.

According to the Islamabad High Court, issuing an unjustified restraining order would show distrust in the elected prime minister.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has disposed of a petition seeking restraint of the prime minister from releasing a secret document.

Earlier, Federal Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry had said that we do not want to investigate the matter of the letter nor do we want to reveal the names behind the scenes.

Talking to a private TV channel, Fawad Chaudhry said, “We have to decide whether we want to name the people and countries related to the letter or not. We do not want to investigate the issue of the letter.”

He said that we did not want to reveal the name behind the letter. If we wanted to reveal the name, it would have been very easy. We would have released the contents of the letter.

Chaudhry said that we have two options regarding the letter, either make it public and let all people see it.
