Ida Rieu School for Blind, Deaf completes 100 years

KARACHI: It is an honour to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Ida Rieu School for Blind and Deaf, which was established in 1922.

These views were expressed by Ida Rieu Welfare Association Chairman Zafar Iqbal, General Secretary Dr. Munawar Hussain and school principal Maznaamsud while speaking at a press conference here on Saturday.

They said that the Ida Rieu School had been serving to impart education to disabled children for the past century.

Zafar Iqbal said that thousands of differently-abled students had graduated from the Ida Rieu School and College. Today, these students are now serving the nation, he added.

Today, hundreds of blind and dumb students are studying at the school, he further said.

Ida Rieu School, which started with a small room and only two students, now after a century of hard work and efforts is known as the country’s largest institution, the chairman said.

He added that the institution is educating blind and deaf children from basic education to graduation. In addition to educational activities, our students are also achieving great achievements in social and academic activities such as scouting and girls guide and martial arts. In cricket and other sports they are making achievements while they are also participating in radio and television programs, he further said.
