Hurriyat leaders detained ahead of Burhan’s anniversary

In occupied Kashmir, the authorities have detained many Hurriyat leaders to prevent them from participating in various programmes announced by the Joint Resistance Leadership in connection with the 2nd martyrdom anniversary of popular youth leader, Burhan Muzaffar Wani.

Burhan Wani was killed along with two associates by the Indian troops in a fake encounter in Kokernag area of Islamabad district on July 08, 2016.

The Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik has called for holding of special prayers for Burhan Wani and those killed by the Indian troops during the mass uprising erupted after his killing in 2016. The leadership has also called for complete shutdown on Sunday and a march towards Tral, the native town of Burhan Wani, where a public meeting will be held on the day.

The Indian police arrested Muhammad Yasin Malik after raiding his residence in Srinagar, today. The occupation authorities have put Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, Zafar Akbar Butt and Bilal Siddiqi under house detention or in custody.
