HONG KONG: Hong Kong shares opened higher Thursday morning as energy firms were boosted by a surprise deal by OPEC to cut oil production and lift prices.
The Hang Seng Index climbed 0.58 percent or 136.17 points, to 23,755.82.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index rose 0.14 percent, or 4.31 points, to 2,992.17 and the Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China’s second exchange, was marginally up, adding 1.16 points to 1,979.46.
