Hong Kong, Shanghai stocks track Wall St higher at open

HONG KONG: Hong Kong and Shanghai stocks rose in early trade Friday, extending the previous day’s gains, following a strong lead from Wall Street and ahead of the release of US jobs data later in the day.

The Hang Seng Index added 0.46 percent, or 96.86 points, to 20,956.08.

In Shanghai, the benchmark composite index gained 0.16 percent, or 4.56 points, to 2,929.79, while the Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China’s second exchange, edged up 0.49 points to 1,905.23.
