Hong Kong, Shanghai down at break

HONG KONG: Shares sank in Hong Kong and Shanghai on Wednesday morning with energy firms dragged deep into negative territory by tumbling oil prices.

The Hang Seng index shed 0.69 percent, or 162.42 points, to 23,402.69 by the break.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index fell 0.35 percent, or 11.01 points, to 3,120.93 and the Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China’s second exchange, dropped 0.39 percent, or 8.11 points, to 2,069.64.
