Deputy Governor of the Afghanistan’s southern province, Mohammad Jan Rasulyar, warned on Sunday that Helmand province could fall to the Taliban after months of clashes and killings of 90 members of security forces during last two days.

The prominent Afghan official urged President Ashraf Ghani to take immediate action, otherwise the province could fall in hands of Taliban insurgents, Reuters reported.

“Your Excellency, Helmand is standing on the brink and there is a serious need for you to come,” he wrote on Facebook.

It should be mentioned that Afghan Taliban had taken control of northern city of Kunduz in late September for several days before government troops regained its control.

The report said that Army spokesman Mohammad Rasool Zazai rejected such expectation regarding Helmand’s collapse while police chief Abul Rahman Sarjang said that they have have strong forces in Helmand, whereas, some places were left vacant for ‘tactical reasons’
