ISLAMABAD: Heavy monsoon rains are expected this year across the country, said Director General Pakistan Meteorological Department Dr. Ghulam Rasool.
Talking to a private news channel, he said monsoon season is entering in Pakistan and 10 to 20 percent more rains are expected as compared to the last year.
He said that Met department had forecast monsoon rains a month earlier and the information had been shared with all provinces.
Rains are expected in north region which includes areas of Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), hilly regions including Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Chitral.
To a question, the DG said the current monsoon season contains high potential for flood and many areas could be affected by it.
On the occasion, Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Major General Asghar Nawaz said in accordance of the expected heavy rains in the country, the department had made comprehensive arrangement to face any circumstances.
All provinces on district level have been made ready in this regard, he said, adding, all departments concerned used to take part in relief and rescue activities collectively in affected areas.
