In the wake of forecast for heavy downpour in the metropolis, rain emergency has been declared in Karachi.
Rain-thunderstorm/windstorm with isolated heavy falls is expected at a number of places in Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore divisions, Islamabad and Kashmir during next 24 hours.
Scattered rain/thunderstorm with isolated heavy falls is likely in Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat Sargodha,Faisalabad, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur, D.G Khan, Multan, Sukkur, Nawabshah, Larkana, Zhob, Sibbi, Naseerabad, Makran, Kalat divisions and Barkhan.
Met office warned that heavy downpour may generate urban/flash flooding and landslides in vulnerable areas.
A spokesman for the KWSB said on Monday that a rain emergency centre has been established at the Water Board’s Karsaz Office.
He said that a special unit has also been set up and provided with heavy machinery as well as the required equipment.
The spokesman further pointed out that there would be red alert for all the field officers and staff during the rains.
He said that the chief engineers have been directed to complete all the arrangements to cope with the situation that may arise in the wake of heavy rains in the city.
