Former ISI chief Hamid Gul passes away at 78

MURREE: Former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Lieutenant-General retd. Hamid Gul, 78, passed away in Murree while fighting for life after brain hemorrhage in Murree on Saturday night.

Former militaryman and renowned political personality of Pakistan, Lt. Gen. retd. Hamid Gul, is no more after meeting brain hemorrhage while touring Murree with his family, sources said.

His body would be shifted to Rawalpindi tonight by his family members, sources said.

Earlier, Hamid Gul’s daughter Uzma Gul told local media that he met brain hemorrhage during a tour to Murree along with his family members.

Doctors rejected possibility to shift him to Rawalpindi due to extremely low blood pressure, she said.

Hamid Gul is a renowned retired high-ranking general officer of Pakistan Army who also performed his duties as Director-General of the Pakistan’s prime intelligence agency, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), between 1987 and 1989 during the late and post-stages of the Soviet war in Afghanistan.
