Hafiz Naeem demands de-politicisation of K-Electric; rejects its privatisation

KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Ameer Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman demanded the authorities concerned to depoliticise the K-Electric and to stop steps towards its privatisation, as it has filed to redress the issues of public including over-billing and load-shedding.

Expressing his deep concerns over long hours load-shedding and over billing, the JI Karachi Ameer Hafiz Naeem said that the K-Electric has completely failed to fulfill the terms and conditions of the privatisation agreement in which it stated that the new power plants would be installed in order to overcome the power shortage in Karachi, to increase the production of power generation and to provide relief to the people from prolonged load-shedding.

However; the K-Electric after privatisation has completely failed to deliver and the past government allies PPP and MQM were responsible of the prevailing load-shedding.

He said that the people of Karachi including children, women, men and elderly men were passing through tremendous mental agony due to long hours’ power outages at regular intervals in different areas of the city.

Hafiz Naeem further alleged that the PPP and MQM just for their vested interest recruited their party workers in K-Electric at high salaries which resulting adverse performance of Electricity Company.

“On one hand, the K-Electric is carried out long hours’ load-shedding in many areas of the city while on the other hand, it is also sending thousands of rupees bills to its consumers”, he added.

He further said that the authorities concerned of K-Electric are not paying any heed towards the over-billing issue faced by the consumers; adding that they were of the view that the consumer should have to pay the same amount which has to be given in its electricity bill.

Hafiz Naeem further demanded to the authorities concerned to take notice of the over-billing issue faced by the people of Karachi.
