Hafiz Naeem demands conditional restoration of CNG rickshaws

KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Amir Engr. Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman has agreed with QinQi rickshaw associations’ representatives that the ban on the CNG rickshaws should be lifted immediately, however he stressed the need of regulations for the rickshaws.

Talking to a delegation of the association at the JI headquarters on Tuesday, he expressed his grave concern over the situation of transport in the city that has become worst from bad after the recent ban on QinQi rickshaws.

He said that poor citizens and commuters, as well as rickshaw owners, were badly affected by the move. He termed the ban illogical without provision of a proper alternate.

He was of the view that the ban has not only bleak the future of thousands of families, associated with the CNG rickshaws, but also brought massive problems for the commuters in the mega city.

Engr. Naeem stressed the need to reevaluate the requirements of transport in Karachi and to introduce an effective system accordingly.

He further said that CNG rickshaws should be restored to small routes with under adequate regulations and a proper strategy should be devise to cater the needs of the mega city on long term basis.

The JI leader expressed his disappointment over the conduct of ruling regimes who badly failed to devise a strategy to cater the needs of transportation in the economical hub of the country.

Earlier the delegation appraised the JI leader on their miseries and situation of transportation in the city.
