LAHORE: Deputy chief of the Jamaat e Islami, Pakistan, Hafiz Muhammad Idrees, has said that Chief Justice of Pakistan, Mr. Justice Jawwad S. Khwaja had set noble traditions by refusing protocol and taking a bold decision in favour of national language Urdu.

In a statement here on Wednesday, he said that the Chief Justice had taken a historic and memorable step by writing his note in a Supreme Court judgment in Urdu and also by taking the oath of his office in the national language.

The JI deputy chief said that conspiracies were going on against Urdu language and the efforts by the Chief Justice to counter these were in accordance with the wishes of every patriotic citizen.

Hafiz Muhammad Idrees said that Mr. Justice Khwaja would be holding his high office only for 23 days but some of his decisions had earned him a distinct place in the history of the judiciary.

He also urged the country’s rulers not to stifle the voice of the national language. He said that the rule of the British had been over long ago, therefore the slavery of the English language should also come to an end.
