Gujranwala train accident: JIT completes investigation report of second day

Joint Investigation Team (JIT) has prepared investigation report of the second day that stated that the ill-fated train was moving with speed of 65 kilometres.

JIT report revealed that the public-packed train was moving with speed of 65 kilometres on the track unfit for normal speed while the driver was unaware about specified speed on the railway track and dilapidated bridge that caused major accident.

Investigation team said that basic reason of the accident was not over-speeding as train speed was 65 km per hour while the specified speed on the track was 30 kilometres per hour. Moreover, nut bolts of was not fitted and three fish plates were not placed on the railway track.

Report said that train driver also used emergency break to void the severe accident. Forensic team of Pakistan Army acquired samples of engine, train and affected bogies from the incident’s site. Moreover, statements of assistant driver and military personnel were also recorded by the investigation team.
