Govt’s focus to end terrorism is clear: Rana Tanveer

LAHORE: Federal Minister for Defence Production, Science and Technology Rana Tanveer Hussain on Saturday said the National Radio and Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC) was working well keeping in view the current scenario of the country besides fulfilling needs of national defence institutions.

Inaugurating the National Radio and Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC) Lahore office here, he said defence institutions had achieved success keeping in view an element of self-reliance.

He said different institutions like NRTC, Heavy Industry Taxila (HIT), Pakistan Ordinance Factories (POFs), Karachi Shipyard and research departments were working hard and fulfilling the defence needs of the country.

The federal minister said in POFs all types of arms were being manufactured and needs of the armed forces and national defence institutions were being fulfilled.

He said rifles and some other arms manufactured in POFs were also being exported.

Rana Tanveer stressed for bringing coordination in system as it would help in making different ministries work for more improvement and betterment.

Many countries had turnaround their economy through ship industry, he said, adding that before the PML-N government came to power the Karachi Shipyard was in loss but now it had improved.

The governments focus on elimination of terrorism was very clear and with the grace of Almighty Allah terrorism incidents had reduced to a great extent.

NRTC Managing Director Iftikhar Ahmad Awan said the NRTC was fulfilling all requirements of armed forces related to defence, communication and security equipments.

He said the NRTC had also proved its metal in international defence markets and also exporting products to different countries, including Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Turkey, and Egypt.

He said with this export a good amount of foreign exchange had been earned, adding that prominent products of NRTC were jammers, radios, field exchanges, field telephone, intelligence and surveillance equipment.

He said the NRTC had a plan to work on different projects with the collaboration of educational and industry departments which he added would be for achieving progress in information technology and the industry sector.

Earlier, talking to the media, the minister said the NRTC was working good and their products were popular and they were supplying products in Saudi Arabia, Nigeria and other countries.

Regarding Shaukat Khanum 3 million dollars, the minister said Imran Khan should not take refuge in donations and stay orders, adding that he should behave as a mature politician.
