Govt to review Pervez Musharraf’s death sentence verdict: PM aide

ISLAMABAD: The federal government will review the former military ruler retired Gen Pervez Musharraf’s death sentence awarded by a special court, a PM’s special aide claimed here on Tuesday.

Speaking to journalists, Firdous Ashiq Awan, the special assistant to the PM on information, said that the sentence will be reviewed in detail.

Our legal experts will assess the political and legal angles of the verdict. The government stance will be shared with the media after consultation with the legal experts, she added.

Earlier in the day, a special court hearing the high treason case had awarded death sentence to former military ruler Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf for suspending the Constitution on Nov 3, 2007.

A three-member bench comprising Lahore High Court’s Justice Shahid Karim, Peshawar High Court’s Justice Waqar Ahmad Seth and Sindh High Court’s Justice Nazar Akbar issued the verdict that was split 2-1 in the high treason case here.

The detailed judgement will be released within 48 hours.
