Govt to form committee to engage opposition on Panama leaks issue

ISLAMABADL: The federal government and its allied parties have decided to contact the opposition regarding Terms of Reference (ToRs) for a Commission to probe the Panama Papers allegations.

The decision was made in a meeting of coalition parties on Saturday chaired by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at the PM House in Islamabad.

The high level meeting was attended by Chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Chief of Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) Mehmood Khan Achakzai, Mir Hasil Bazenjo of National Party (NP) and Chief of Pakistan Muslim League-Zia (PML-Z) Ijazul Haq.

During the meeting, the Federal Law Minister Zahid Hamid briefed the participants about the ToRs presented by the opposition. The consultation on the letter sent to the prime minister by the Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah was also made.

It was decided in the meeting that a committee would be constituted comprising members of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and its coalition partners.

It was also decided to contact the opposition regarding the ToRs for Panama Papers revelations.
