Govt to facilitate establishment of e-commerce gateways: Anusha Rehman

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Anusha Rehman Thursday said that the government will facilitate investors to invest in establishment of e-commerce gateways.

“Any player wanting to invest in establishment of e-commerce gateways will receive full facilitation being a core component of the e-commerce value chain” she said during a meeting with a high level Chinese delegation.

Federal Secretary IT Rizwan Bashir and Member Telecom Mudassar Hussain were also present in the meeting.

The minister apprised the delegates,”Pakistan’s IT and Telecom sector has lot of potential and now we have to explore the ways to reap this possible mutual dividend from the tech sectors in an optimal way. We believe in “Digital Pakistan” and cooperation and collaboration of private sector will help us to materialize this vision of “accelerated digitization”.

While talking about e-commerce she said that the IT ministry is already collaborating with Ministry of Commerce for the development of e-commerce gateway framework.

She said online commercial ventures will flourish further consumers and companies will be able to get more confidence in online payment systems.

Moreover, the State Bank has already enabled PSP licensing framework in this regard, she added.

The minister said, “We are working on the agenda of ubiquitous development of ICT infrastructure across the country with special emphasis on serving marginalized (un-served/under-served) segment of the society.”

Due to these strenuous efforts, he said, broadband penetration has risen to more than 23% which was less than 3% in 2013.

The delegates appreciated the vision of the government and praised the initiatives being taken by the Ministry of Information Technology for the development of IT & Telecom sector.
