LAHORE: Secretary General (SG) Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Liaqat Baloch has urged the government and the opposition to avoid making the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) controversial by treating it as a T-20 match.

Addressing party workers in the city on Monday, Liaqat Baloch stressed that the Prime Minister should go ahead on this epoch making project in accordance with the consensus arrived at with the national leadership.

He said the CPEC was spread over from 20 to 25 years but the unnecessary haste and hollow claims of the government with its eyes on the 2018 elections were providing the opposition an opportunity to differ. He counseled the government not to confine its politics to the CPEC.

The JI central leader urged the Pakistan government to resolve the issue of Afghan woman Sharbat Gulah on humanitarian grounds

Liaqat Baloch said that the JI’s campaign against corruption had yielded positive results and the masses had risen against the corrupt mafia. He said the nation had high expectations from the superior judiciary and it was hoped that the Supreme Court would lay down an effective road map for investigation into the Panama leaks and accountability of the corrupt.

He said that the JI Ijtema in Khyber Pakthukhawa (KP) and the Punjab had been highly successful and had infused a new enthusiasm among the workers.
