LAHORE: Provincial Minister for Food Bilal Yasin on Thursday said the government was encouraging private sector for wheat procurement.
Presiding over a meeting with Directors of Flour Mills Association at his office here, he said that due to environment of competition, the cultivators would benefit and get due return of their produce.
Wheat procurement process was reviewed in detail during the meeting. The meeting expressed satisfaction over wheat procurement campaign and the facilities provided to the farmers at wheat procurement centers.
Office-bearers of Flour Mills Association informed the Minister that private sector was with the government in wheat procurement campaign and would purchase 12 lakh metric ton wheat from all over the province during current wheat procurement campaign.
They said that out of 1.2 million metric ton, 0.7 million metric ton wheat had already been purchased while flour mills were fully active to procure remaining 0.5 million metric ton wheat.
Bilal Yasin expressed satisfaction over wheat procurement campaign and said farmers would benefit due to collaboration of private sector.
He said farmers had been rid of middleman due to participation of private sector in wheat procurement campaign.
Representatives of Flour Mills Association assured full cooperation to the government in its public welfare programmes and national development projects.
Director Food Asif Bilal Lodhi and Directors Flour Mills Association Hafiz Ahmed, Mian Riaz and Asim Raza were also present on the occasion.
