ISLAMABAD: The federal government has decided to place the name of former chief judge Gilgit-Baltistan Rana Shamim on the exit control list (ECL).

In this connection, the Advocate General Islamabad had written a letter to the chief commissioner.

The letter said that the contempt of court proceedings in the Islamabad High Court against Rana Shamim were underway. The court has issued a show cause notice to Rana Shamim.

It is written in the letter that if Rana Shamim leaves abroad, serious questions will arise on the independence of the judiciary. Therefore, before the next hearing, the process of putting his name in the ECL should be completed.

The upcoming hearing of the contempt case against Rana Shamim will be held on December 13.
