ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) led federal government has decided not to immediately approve the resignations of of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) lawmakers.
The decision was taken during a hurriedly called parliamentary leaders meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the chair on Thursday.
Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman was tasked with the responsibility to convince MQM lawmakers and its chief Altaf Hussain to withdraw their resignations submitted a day earlier.
According to reports, the issue of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) lawmakers’ resignations will keep in pending as of PTI. During meeting, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif asserted that resignations of the MQM MPs should not be approved.
The MQM will also be treated like Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the government representatives will address reservations of the protesting party to convince them to return to the Parliament, sources told.
All the parliamentary leaders also expressed satisfaction on Karachi operation and decided to continue targeted action in the city.
On Wednesday, MQM’s 24 MPs in the lower house of parliament, eight senators in the upper house, as well as 51 members in the Sindh Assembly tendered their resignations in protest against ongoing targeted operation in Karachi and alleged extra-judicial killings of their party workers.
