PESHAWAR: Khyber pakhtunkhwa Governor Engineer Iqbal Zafar Jhagra on Wednesday said the incumbent government was committed to improve medical education adding that all-out efforts are being made to foster excellence in health education and research, to educate and train medical students in accordance with highest professional standards.
He said we can meet the healthcare needs through dissemination of knowledge and service and advised the doctors to work hard for the betterment of the country and to serve ailing humanity.
He expressed these views while addressing medical graduates, their parents and faculty members during a function arranged on the occasion of the 3rd convocation of Khyber Girls Medical College, Peshawar.
The Convocation was also attended by Pro-Chancellor of KMU, Provincial health minister, Shahram Khan Tarakai, Vice Chancellor of Kyber Medical University Prof. Dr. Hafizullah, Registrar KMU, Principal Khyber Girls Medical College, Prof. Dr. Abid Hussain and principals of all the KMU recognized medical colleges and large numbers of the students of the college and their parents. The Pro-Chancellor KMU, Provincial Minister for Health also addressed the convocation.
Governor conferred 56 degrees on the occasion of the 3rd convocation and 23 outstanding performers were given gold medals for standing first in their sections.
Principal of the college, Prof. Dr. Abid Hussain also presented the annual performance report. On the occasion, the Governor also announced Rs 1 million grant to the staff and for welfare society of the KGMC and Rs 10,000 each to the students obtaining gold medals on getting top positions in their examinations.
While addressing the convocation, Governor said that the success of any nation was linked with the pursuit of education and knowledge adding that to make sure the development of the country we need to utilize all available resources and the potential of the youth.
He said that measures has been taken on priority to uplift the health and education sector and stressed that existing resources should be utilized at optimum level through cpmprehensive policy so that we could have an effective and concrete impact.
“It is not possible to compromise on the quality of research in the institutes imparting higher education especially in medical field,” Governor added.
He said society owe the huge responsibility in making the educational facilities of desired standards available to students of medical education but in return, he added, being health professionals it is equally mandatory to them to maintain high moral and professional standards; enhance professional knowledge and skills and to follow the ethics and above all the commitment to serve the ailing humanity on their part.
Governor further stressed that the government; the parents of students and the society as a whole have great expectations to the graduating medical professionals and its hoped that all of them will come upto the expectations.
Addressing the convocation, the Governor said it was a matter of great pleasure and satisfaction that within a short period the Khyber Girls Medical College had set traditions of excellence, self-confidence and competence among its students with focus on meaningful learning.
He said the KGMC had succeeded in achieving the respect in the society both in the academic and co-curricular activities.
While congratulating the graduating students, the Governor reminded the medical graduates the huge responsibility which the society owed to them because of their very demanding but rewarding and prestigious profession.
He emphasized that it was mandatory to maintain high moral and professional standards, to enhance professional knowledge and skills and to stick to ethics and above all the commitment to serve the ailing humanity.
He said the degree holders are now entering into the practical life and added that they must work hard to prove them with their qualities.
Governor urged upon the medical students to contribute with zeal and enthusiasm and also serve the humanity for the progress and prosperity of Pakistan. He said that the students are the bright future of our nation and they should put all their endeavors through their untiring and unprecedented service to the country. He underlined the quality of education and research in the professional institutes and added that we must collectively work for the improvement of the quality of education and research.
Earlier, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Hafizullah presented welcome address and congratulated the medical graduates on the successful completion of MBBS degrees and stated that their dream had come true and finalized which they were seeing since they took admission in the KGMC. Later, The governor was also presented souvenir by Dr. Hafizullah.
