ISLAMABAD: Former chief of Indian spy agency, Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), AS Dulat has said Pakistani Army chief General Qamar Jawed Bajwa can help resolve issues between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.
“General Bajwa can help resolve the issues between Pakistan and India,” the former RAW chief said while speaking to Geo News via telephone from New Delhi.
Dulat further said, “I think General Bajwa should be invited to New Delhi to hold talks.”
Shifting focus to the book he recently authored with Lieutenant General (retd) Asad Durrani, former chief of Pakistan’s spy agency, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Dulat said, “It was a pleasant experience.”
Dulat disclosed that he had been meeting Lt Gen (retd) Durrani in track-two interactions. “We have been meeting for the last ten years,” he added.
Asked about his experience of co-authoring a book with the former spy chief of a rival country, Dulat said, “Initially when someone gave us this idea, we thought that no one would believe in our writing even if we co-author a fiction.”
“Initially, we authored two papers on Kashmir jointly and then someone gave us the idea of writing a book together,” he added.
Further delving into details regarding the book, “Spy Chronicles: RAW, ISI and the Illusion of Peace”, which is yet to hit shelves, Dulat shared that it took almost two and a half years to write it.
Responding to a question regarding the concept behind the latest book, the former RAW chief said, “The concept is based on my previous book that we should interact, dialogue and engage with each other”.
Dulat served as the head of RAW from 1999 to 2000 and as adviser on Kashmir in the Indian Prime Minister’s Office from January 2001 to May 2004.
