World No. 1 ranked American tennis star Serena Williams defeated Lucie Safarova to claim her third French Open third in the decider to clinch a 6-3, 6-7 (2-7), 6-2 victory here on Saturday. Serena Williams also won her 20th grand slam title.

Once, the 33-year-old Williams went off to lose the game on a tie-break but recovered it from 2-0 down to clinch 6-3, 6-7, 6-2 victory her Czech tennis player Lucie Safarova today.

Williams is now halfway to the calendar year grand slam and after winning here despite suffering flu for the second week with having won the Australian Open at the start of the year.

The victory moves Williams to within two wins of Steffi Graf in the all-time list of grand slam champions and four behind the record-holder Margaret Court but even by her standards, win No20 was a struggle, British media reported.
