COX’S BAZAR, Bangladesh: Four Rohingya refugees were killed when they were attacked by wild elephants in southern Bangladesh here on Saturday.

The wild elephants attacked the refugees when they were busy in building a shack on a forest land in Balukhali camp, where hundreds of thousands of Rohingya Muslims have established shelters,  police say.

Around seven to eight wild elephants trampled the refugees, including three children and a woman, to death, a police official told the media.

He said that two people were also injured in the attack launched by wild elephants, who were searching for food and shelter in the area.

Saturday’s attack was the second incident in which wild elephants killed Rohingya Muslims.

In the earlier attack, an old man and a child was killed by wild elephants.
