NEW DELHI: Four Indian citizens have been arrested in the Libyan coastal city of Sirte. The Sirte city is under the control of self-styled Islamic State militants.

Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesman Vikas Swarup said on Friday that detained Indians were working at Sirte University. He said that the Indians were arrested at a checkpoint about 50 kilometers outside Sirte late on Wednesday while on their way back to India.

These Indians were arrested by Libyan personnel. It is pertinent to mention here that Indians’ presence at IS controlled area expressed their alleged links with the militant group.
