SHARJAH: Pakistan hammered West Indies by 111 runs on the Duckworth-Lewis method in the first day-night international in Sharjah on Friday, taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
Babar Azam’s 120 lifted Pakistan to 284-9 in a match reduced to 49 overs-a-side due to a floodlight failure before bowling out West Indies for 175 in 38.4 overs. The West Indies needed 287 to win.
The match was halted for nearly 70 minutes with Pakistan’s total on 260-6 after 44.3 overs. Under the Duckworth-Lewis method the West Indies were set 287 to win.
Babar Azam scored a 131-ball 120 and added 82 for the second wicket with Sharjeel Khan (54) and 99 with Sarfraz Ahmed (35) for the fourth wicket after Pakistan were sent into bat by the West Indies.
Paceman Carlos Brathwaite finished with 3-54. Babaz Azam declared Man of the match.
